Have you ever struggled with something repeatedly, only to stumble upon a game-changing tip that suddenly makes everything click? That's exactly what happened to me with sourdough bread. After many failed attempts, a YouTube tutorial from a young baker finally helped me nail down my sourdough starter and get my loaves just right. Now, I feel like I can finally bake this bread puzzle, though I've also discovered the downside—eating a lot more bread than usual!
My friend's experience echoes mine. Once her husband mastered sourdough, he ventured into focaccia, sparking my curiosity about what's next in my baking journey.
Another rediscovered passion of mine is crocheting. It's become my go-to activity while unwinding in front of the TV, replacing doom scrolling with a sense of accomplishment. Exploring different yarns has become a delightful new shopping avenue. Crocheting has boosted my self-esteem, proving that I can create something beautiful despite not considering myself particularly creative.
Unlike my husband and kids, who are naturally artistic, I've always admired handmade gifts but rarely received them due to my family's lack of craftiness. Determined to change that, I'm now focused on perfecting my skills to create heartfelt items like baby blankets, even though a baby shower isn't on the horizon anytime soon.
As a devoted TV and movie enthusiast, I've found solace in cinema discussions with my son, who's about to graduate with a cinema degree. We eagerly anticipate his thesis film and all the productions he's been involved in.
At an age where many settle into routines, I've embraced a surprising change: a rigorous exercise routine at dawn. Initially prompted by a pet's medication schedule, it's transformed my health and fitness in my mid-50s. I've shed weight, regained my stamina, and conquered stairs that once intimidated me post-pandemic.
Despite challenges like an aging pet, whose decline reminds me of cherished hikes we once shared, I find joy in managing our lively menagerie. Mornings spent savoring coffee while watching birds and kittens play in our yard are precious moments of tranquility.
Reflecting on friendships, I've made a conscious decision to nurture those who truly support and uplift me. Letting go of one-sided relationships has been liberating, reaffirming my self-worth and leading to a happier, guilt-free existence.
